Fuel prices are among the most price-sensitive aspects of everyday life for consumers and businesses alike. A small number of integrated conglomerates dominate the refining, wholesale and retail sectors simultaneously – with consequences for prices and competition across the entire value chain. The Monopolies Commission is monitoring these developments closely and issues statements as and when necessary on the basis of Section 44(1), fourth sentence, of the Act against Restraints of Competition (GWB). The aim is to identify risks to competition and to formulate evidence-based recommendations for policy and regulation.
