2015 Rail Sector Report
The Monopolies Commission has submitted its fifth sectoral report on the development of competition in the railway markets to the Federal Government and the legislative bodies. The analysis of the German railway sector shows that the development of competition remains unsatisfactory and that significant competitive shortcomings persist. The main reason for this virtual standstill is that the legal framework has for years been an obstacle to successful development, and political decision-makers have failed to provide any significant impetus for further progress.
Politicians must show greater commitment to fostering competition in the rail sector. The majority of citizens would benefit from effective competition.
