2017 Rail Sector Report

The Monopolies Commission’s 6th Sector Report on Rail shows that competition in the German rail markets remains insufficient and is determined by the special position of Deutsche Bahn AG. The Railway Regulation Act should be amended for the benefit of rail customers. Furthermore, the Monopolies Commission considers it necessary to draw up a transparent cost-benefit analysis for the railways and the transport modes competing with them, so that public funds are actually allocated where they yield the best return.
