2017 Energy Sector Report
The energy transition poses major challenges for the entire energy system in Germany, for which targeted solutions must be found. In its special report published today, entitled ‘Energy 2017: A Targeted Approach, Avoiding a Patchwork Solution’, the Monopolies Commission sets out recommendations on where the new federal government should focus its efforts. A key focus of the ‘Energy 2017’ sector report is the implementation of the energy transition in Germany. The primary objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions should be achieved by strengthening the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). To this end, further sectors, such as the transport sector, should be included.
At present, we are seeing few concentration issues in the energy market. However, adapting the regulatory framework in the context of the energy transition poses a major challenge. A consistent regulatory framework could help to limit the costs of the energy transition.
