Special Report 83

The Monopolies Commission has published analyses and specific recommendations on the planned hospital reform. The recommendations relate to the responsibilities of the federal states in hospital planning, the dual hospital funding system, and the ability of patients to compare the quality of medical care provided by hospitals.

With its planned hospital reform, the Federal Government has taken the right approach. The challenge now is to strike the right balance between competition and hospital planning in order to meet patients’ needs for comprehensive, high-quality hospital care across the country. In doing so, it is also important to improve transparency regarding both the flow of funds and the quality of hospital care, in the interests of patients.
