The Monopolies Commission today unanimously elected Prof. Dr Tomaso Duso as its new chair.

Tomaso Duso has been a member of the Monopolies Commission since 1 July 2022. Since 2013, he has headed the Department of Firms and Markets at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). Since 2018, Tomaso Duso has been Professor of Empirical Industrial Economics at the Technical University (TU) of Berlin. From 2011 to 2018, he was a professor at the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) at the University of Düsseldorf (HHU). He is spokesperson for the Berlin Centre for Consumer Policies (BCCP) and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the Centre for Economic Studies (CESIfo), as well as a member of the European Commission’s Economic Advisory Group on Competition Policy (EAGCP). Tomaso Duso advises numerous institutions on competition policy issues, including several Directorates-General of the European Commission, the UK and Dutch competition authorities, the OECD and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. His research focuses on applied econometrics in the fields of industrial economics, competition policy, regulation and management.

Tomaso Duso succeeds Prof. Dr Jürgen Kühling LL.M. as Chair. Jürgen Kühling was a member of the Monopolies Commission from July 2016 to June 2024 and its Chair from September 2020 to June 2024. His term of office on the Monopolies Commission ended as scheduled in mid-2024.
